Here you will find some writing challenges that you might start in class, for homework or take upon yourself to do in your own time. Remember, the more you write and reflect the better you will become.

Each writing task comes with an extension challenge if you wish to make things more interesting...

Difficult

• Write a scene of a recently widowed woman meeting a private investigator to solve the murder of her husband’s death
• Imitate a film noir style

• Start a script off with "Something strange is happening at the Sunspot Solar Observatory in New Mexico"
• Make the protagonist the opposite gender to you

• Write a bar scene in space where two different species meet, make friends then fallout
• Don't include any physical violence or accusations of "you slept with my partner"

Moderate

• Describe the room you’re in using appropriate scriptwriting layout
• Add an imaginary conflict to your script

• Rewrite part of an opening scene from a film without looking at the original script

• Write a day in the life where the protagonist goes from bad to good
• Limit yourself to 3 locations

• 4 friends go to a cabin for a weekend and only 1 returns
• Don't show and blood or murders
